Luna’s Story
Luna was a small rescue dog with bright eyes, busy paws and a huge personality. She came into our lives in Gran Canaria and later moved with us to England, filling our home with mischief, loyalty and joy.
In September 2025, Luna was diagnosed with immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia, or IMHA. It is a serious and frightening disease in which the immune system destroys red blood cells, causing anaemia and placing the patient at risk of life-threatening complications.
Luna was treated for IMHA, but later suffered catastrophic thrombotic complications and died suddenly. Her loss was devastating. It also led us to learn more about the recognised risk of thrombosis in IMHA patients and the importance of clear, accessible information about thromboprophylaxis.
The purpose of this site is to bring together publicly available resources, clinical references and explanatory material so that important information is easier to find and understand. It is intended for veterinary professionals treating IMHA patients, and for pet owners who are trying to understand what their animal is facing.
This site does not provide veterinary advice and should never be used as a substitute for clinical judgement. Every IMHA patient is different, and treatment decisions must be made by a qualified veterinary professional with knowledge of the individual animal.
Our hope is simply that Luna’s story may help improve awareness, encourage careful consideration of thrombotic risk, and make useful information more accessible when it is needed most.
Luna was deeply loved. This site is part of her legacy.
