Immune-Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA)
Immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia, or IMHA, is a serious, complex immunological disease in which the patient's own immune system mistakenly identifies its red blood cells as foreign, initiating their rapid destruction. This leads to profound anaemia, systemic hypoxia, and in many cases, catastrophic, life-threatening thromboembolic complications.
The IMHA Toolkit compiles publicly available veterinary resources, consensus guidelines, and easy-to-use explanatory material into a centralised point-of-care platform. Most dogs with IMHA do not die from anaemia alone. Thromboembolic disease is recognised as a major cause of fatality in IMHA patients. Early recognition and appropriate thromboprophylaxis form a critical component of modern IMHA management.
